Acupressure Mats : Retreat Essentials
Original price was: $29.99.$13.44Current price is: $13.44.
- PAIN REDUCTION – Naturally reduce muscle tension, back pain and headaches by simply laying on the mat daily for 10-30 minutes. Acupressure releases endorphins that block pain and helps relax the muscles massaging your back, neck and feet.
- FULL SUPPORT – Both cushioned foam mats are large enough to fit your full back. The longer version of the acupressure mat covers full-body, ideal for a taller person and for full-body relaxation. Unlike many mats that only cover your back, both sets include a pillow covered in acupressure points for neck support and more holistic pain relief.
- RELAXATION & STRESS RELIEF – Lay back and relax onto this “bed of needles” to massage pressure points that help release tight muscles as an exercise recovery tool and release stress. Use prior to bedtime to improve your rest and reduce insomnia.
- INCREASED ENERGY & POST-WORKOUT RECOVERY – Thousands of acupressure points stimulate nerves and improve post-workout recovery, making it great for active individuals and athletes as well as those who sit at a desk all day.
- 2 HIGH-QUALITY SIZES – Made of 100% thick cotton & plant-based eco foam, the regular acupressure mat has 8,910 acupressure points with 11 available colors and the long acupressure mat has 11,178 acupressure points with 4 available colors to fit your preference; both neck pillows of both mats have 1,782 acupressure points.

We call this an accu-pokey. For under $30 this is a pretty good set. I have used the back mat while sitting on the couch watching TV, driving long hours, but my favorite it laying on it in bed – it takes a minute getting used to it but I have often fallen asleep on it.
I was originally looking at another brand and will maybe upgrade in the future, but for now this one has done the job well and helped ease my lower back pain.

Update March 2020: My love of Spikeo (affectionate name for this inanimate object) is known through all my friends, and over time many have tried it. At least 4 of my friends who have tried mine ending up buying one. Even people who think it looks terrifying have found it remarkably soothing. One thing: About a year into my relationship with Spikeo I bought another one to live at my parent’s house for when I have longer visits over the holidays. The new one was SO sharp — turns out that with daily use, the spikes get slightly dull over time. Eventually I felt like my original wasn’t packing the same punch, so bought a new one for myself about 18 months after the original purchase. My new one is gray, which is actually quite pretty and a little less garish. I would advise everyone to get new spikes every couple years or so if you want that signature OUCH with your pain relief.
Original review:
I have fibromyalgia and have spent hundreds of dollars on various pain remedies throughout the years. Most things haven’t really helped, including physical therapy — the only thing that would provide relief was Tylenol and scalding hot showers. This mat appears to be invented by a sadist and it definitely HURTS, but with regular use my pain has become much, much better. It also helps relieve pain when it happens, but I’ve found it to be more useful in reducing pain generally rather than addressing a particular pain spot.
My best evidence of its effectiveness is that I get extremely thirsty after massages and the same thing happens when I lie on the mat for 20-40 minutes. I don’t know what the thirst means (a quick Google says something about the lymphatic system?) but I take it as a sign that this mat actually does something for my knotted-up muscles.
I love the mat so much that I made the following meme. I hope it helps in your decision on whether to purchase this.

Worth the money!

First time I used it I was scared of the pain, then the second time I adjusted position a bit and can now manage. It feels very warm once you position yourself. Like more warmth/heat than feeling painful. Makes you feel sleepy.

I’ve had this for about a year now and decided to write a review. I bought a used one on Amazon Resale because it was about $10 cheaper than buying a new one. Although it wasn’t sent in the original packaging, the item was almost new, had no stains or defects, and was in good condition. I lead an active life, playing sports and exercising every day, but maybe because now that I’m in my 50s, I often have pain and ailments all over my body. I’ve been trying out various recovery items and I decided to give this item a try after reading positive reviews. At first, it was too painful to use this on my bare skin, so I had to lie down for about a minute with a thin tank top on. All I felt was pain and didn’t feel any comfort first, but after using it 2-3 times a week for a few months, I was able to lie on my bare skin without feeling like I am hurting myself. I continued this for a year and now I feel so good that I fall asleep after about 10 minutes of lying on my bare skin. I can sleep on the mat for about 45 minutes. This is a guaranteed way for me to have a power nap after a vigorous exercise and I feel refreshed when I wake up. Also, it seems to help pain in my back or buttocks when I sleep on it. Every time I use this item. I feel a great sense of refreshment and relaxation that nothing else can provide. It also helps regulate my autonomic nervous system. As for the head pillow, I never used it because it was too stimulating for my head, but recently I tried putting my feet on the pillow while sleeping on the mat and it felt really good! Now I use it only for my feet. I like it because I can massage the acupressure points on my feet which are not usually stimulated because we all wear shoes and socks all day. As for the mat, other than sleeping, my favorite way to use it is to sit on the balance ball as soon as I wake up in the morning and do some pelvic stretches while placing the mat under my feet. This stimulates my foot and wakes me up quickly. My husband likes the mat too, but how he uses is a bit different. He is 190 pounds (almost 100 pounds more than me) so it seems to hurt to lie on it (probably because of his weight?) and he says that lying on his stomach on a regular yoga mat with this mat on top of his back is just right. Either way, we both really like it.

Just one day since I used it. Haven’t felt more energetic and relaxed in years! It’s a game changer for someone like me with ankylosing spondilitis, then I can’t imagine what it will do for someone with back pain with no underlying disease.
I’ve included it as a meditation, and it’s just blissful how I feel pranaali energy in parts of my body which were for so many years only in pain. Thank you prosource for this.
Planning to buy one more so that I can have greater coverage on legs simultaneously.
I also have radiating pain in my arms. So just rest my arms on it and lay a yoga bolster on top for greater pressure as arms aren’t heavy enough to feel much. Another mat would help me do both arms simultaneously. I’m in love with this new ritual to my daily routine.
Which is just so pleasurable. After the initial discomfort though. What helped was taking deep breaths and allowing myself to be present with the sensations. Soon it started becoming blissful 🙂

I’ve had this mat for five years, and used it 2-4 times per month. It’s still holding up great after all that usage and time. The foam insert is yellowing but is still soft and pliable.
I’m 6’2″ and find the coverage fine. I’m 340 pounds so my body really presses into the mat. I still find the initial few moments of laying on the mat almost unbearably painful. But push through that and something magical happens – I can feel warmth as blood rushes to the area. I can feel my muscles almost “melt,” and eventually a deep “pop” as my spine finally relaxes – better than a chiropractor! I often doze off on the mat.
I find the experience intense, but very therapeutic. Knowing how it works on my body makes the initial discomfort easily manageable. If you were to “fight” against the pain by getting MORE tense, it wouldn’t work. You have to give yourself over to the process.
Anyway – five years in and this thing still works like a charm! Great investment that I’m very happy with.

This mat definitely helps with back tension I felt more relaxed after just 10–15 minutes of lying on it. It takes a bit of getting used to since the spikes are pretty sharp at first, but once you adjust, it’s calming.
The one issue I had was that it might have slightly poked or snagged my leggings (I was wearing Lululemon), so I’d be cautious with wearing anything delicate. I now only use it in older gym clothes just to be safe.
Overall, it’s a decent product for muscle relief and stress, but I wish it were just a bit gentler on fabrics.
